Purley Chase Landscape Masterplan for new Hotel, Leisure Centre, Holiday Cottages and Leisure Complex

(For Bugler Developments Ltd)

We were commissioned to prepare a landscape masterplan for this 12.5 hectare site near Nuneaton. It lies adjacent to the existing Purley Chase Golf Club and there are ambtious proposals to site a new hotel and leisure centre, holiday chalets, boating lake, adventure playground, tennis courts, a bowling club and over the longer term a new golf driving range.

Part of the sit esite overlays former mining zones and the water bodies are partially formed from slippages caused by subsidence. A full site investigation is being completed to address the technical issues involved with this development.

We produced a refined digital masterplan based on R3 Architects requirements for siting of the new buildings and specified the structural and detailed planting for the whole development. Consultations were carried out with the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust to create new habitats for amphibians and these recommendations were added to the masterplan. Full planning consent was obtained for this phase of the development in 2006 and we are currently in the process of assisting the design team with working up the scheme's technical details.

(Tourism ministry of the Sultanante of Oman)

We were asked to assess this historic and ecologically sensitive landscape for the tourism ministry of the Sultanate of Oman. There are ruins and trails associated with the Queen of Sheba that provide ample opportunities for interpretation and interactive study.

One of the proposals is to make a dramatic waterfall that appears during the summer monsoon from the Jabal Samham highlands a year round event. Walkways and trials are planned so that visitors can appreciate this special landscape in comfort and safety. The area is rich in wildlife and bird life. Of particular interest are the Flamingos that gather to feed in the wetlands that remain virtually all year round in the wadis or valleys illustrated below.

We have submitted a feasibility study to the Omani government and are awaiting their response prior to further development of the project and consultations with the ministry of water supply.
